May 14, 2009

Spain's The Metal Circus conducted an interview with Mike Portnoy of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER when Mike was in Amsterdam, Holland during a recent promotional trip for the band's new album, "Black Clouds & Silver Linings". Mike talks candidly about the death of his father, his sobriety, the new album, the CD's lyrical content, the state of the music industry and what a band like DREAM THEATER can do to minimize the impact of illegal music downloading on its releases.

The chat is now available for streaming at this location.

"A Rite of Passage", the new single from DREAM THEATER, is available from iTunes at this location.

Video footage of Portnoy discussing the contents of the deluxe collector's edition box set version of "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" can be viewed below.

"Black Clouds & Silver Linings" is scheduled for release on June 23 via Roadrunner Records.

In addition to the standard-version CD, "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc, special-edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs.

DREAM THEATER commenced work on "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" — the band's second for Roadrunner, following up 2007's "Systematic Chaos" — in October of last year.

Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again at the helm as producers, while Paul Northfield mixed the record.
